Public Houses (Hotels) are relatively varied across the Eastern States, though they are relatively common in overall design. The larger and more affluent the town, generally the pubs were more prosperous. Larger towns had brick pubs, but most towns had several pubs of these styles.
This small two story pub is based upon a similar pub in the small town of Wondai, however examples abound across Queensland and NSW. The upper floor was used as a boarding house, and downstairs had a parlor and dining room for the “Upper Class and Ladies” on the other side of the entry way was the more rowdy Public Bar.

This kit is loosely based upon a 1903 Public House (Pub) in a little town called Wandai in the Burnett area, Central Queensland. It still stands at 35 Haly St, Wondai QLD 4606. The current owners have really looked after it and it is a credit to them.

These little pubs were a central feature of the small towns. During the week, they were hives of activity with the workers slaking their well-earned thirst at the end of a hot day.
On Weekends, they transformed into rowdy entertainment venues. These pubs always had a “Public” Bar which interestingly enough is a public venue and has a similar status as the footpath, apart from being shut at 6:00 PM.
The other entrance was to the “Ladies Parlor” where the more refined people were able to enjoy a beverage without the rowdiness of the Public Bar. There usually was a dining room near the Parlor and upstairs there were rooms to rent. Bathrooms were shared affairs towards the back of the pub. Our design has a wraparound balcony and is more suited to a corner block.
We’ve taken a bit of artistic license and renamed the pub the Shamrock Hotel, of which there are many around Australia.
