Our range of kits is always growing, our latest kit under development is a HO Worker’s Cottage Circa 1880.
These little houses were generally constructed of external weatherboard cladding. Inside they contained a bedroom and living room in the main house, with a kitchen and eating area out back. They were often built near the employers workplace in order to minimise the commute to work as public transport was not well developed in the area. Quite often entire families and multi-generational workers worked for the same employer their entire careers.
To give our kit a little difference, we have added a veranda at the front of the house and a little entrance room on the veranda.
This is a very simple kit to put together and will provide a great kit to scratch and offer variations to the theme.
These photos show our first prototype that has been built for this kit. From here our iterative process will bring this to a commercial kit ready for the next show later this year.

From here we will put a back door into the framework, window sills and window hoppers to protect them from weather. Details on the roof will be fitted and we will see what the final kit looks like. Once we have built the kit a few more times and are happy with the outcome, we’ll commercialise the kit and package it ready for the market.
So there is another month at least work in making the kit ready for market. we’ll keep you informed once it is ready to go.
We will be developing a stump kit for this house as well as they were often set three or four steps above the ground to gain some underfloor cooling and to keep them above any rainfall. Occasionally they will be set on higher stumps especially where there is a chance of flooding in the area.
